This game has things going for it, and after spending nearly 850 hours in the game I can honestly tell you that this game holds a special place in my heart.
The game's graphics are surprisingly good looking for a free-to-play game and the game is neatly optimized so even the slowest of the wooden toasters can run it.
As for the gameplay, I'd go as far and say that this game has better gameplay than some AAA games, the actual gun-play is solid, fluid and responsive, the servers do tend to mess up from time to time but from my personal experience, lag is really never an issue.
The game's strongest points are probably a feature called 'HRV' (Hyper-Reality Visor) which basically replaces your typical mini-map with builtin wall hacks! Now, I know what you're thinking, 'Wall hacks? Where's the fun with that?', fear not, the actual maps vary in size and most of them are pretty size-able so camping isn't really a thing in the game.
The game's second strongest point is the character (Weapon / Character / Depot) customization. When it comes down to stats, this will be a statworm's safe haven, you can mix and match pretty much everything. You can change a gun's receiver, stock, muzzle, scope, mag, ammo, barrel, weapon tag, camo / skin, pretty much everything. The actual character can be customized with voice packs (now unobtainable, sadly), Chest armor, Leggings, Helmets, Trophies, camos / skins emotes and so on. The DEPOT items are kinda like your ammo / health / equipment stations where you can either heal, refill your ammo or buy equipment (Miniguns, Railguns, Hardsuits (Freakin' MECHS ZOMG), Katanas, Grenade launchers, Rocket launchers, Air strikes ect.).
I will tell you this much, after the parity patch (the most recent big patch) all items could be bought with the in-game currency (GP - Game Points) instead of Zen / Zcoins (Premium currency), so this game is by no means a pay-to-win. The only items that require Zcoins are purely cosmetic items, everything else, weapon attachments, armor pieces ect. can be purchased using GP. But be warned, there is the GP Duplicator which doubles the amount of GP gained after every match (Average ~200 GP with the GP Dup. - ~100 without the GP Dup.), but the prices of items have been halved to balance out the system.
Now, as much as I love this game, from the title you can probably figure out what the game's biggest problem is. Simply put, the game has been dying for a while now, 4 years to be exact. The game never really took off so the community has always kind of been small, but, after the recent Parity Patch the game lost a significant number of players but there are new players even to this day.
The game's problem lies with bugs. The game has them, some bigger than others but some are very noticeable.
The graphics have been known to glitch out and either turn off (go pitch black) or get set to the lowest possible graphical settings. The game's hit-reg is known to be, well, not very favorable to say the least. The game also suffers from the (now way faster) slow grind system. It takes quite some time to purchase weapon attachments but don't worry, boredom won't kill you... hopefully. Now, onto the main issue, hackers. There aren't many, but they exist, oh do they exist and trust me, you will know when or if you're in a lobby with one. The game's been using a very outdated and a really bad anti-cheat system A.K.A. Punkbuster. Now I don't personally have anything against the program, but in this day and age it really is pretty much useless and does more harm to legitimate players than to actual hackers.
(Post-Parity Patch note: The game USED to have a level lock system where [X] level was required in order to unlock and be able to purchase an item)
All in all, I would recommend you give this game a go, see how it feels, whether you like it or not ect.
Heads-up: don't get your hopes too high, this game might look fun but it can, does and will get dull after some time (~300 hours of course).
