Kingdom Come: Deliverance is officially out on February 13, 2018, but early PS4 players on Resetera have reported that the game downloads a 23GB patch when you insert the disc.

- News last Friday that Kingdom Come: Deliverance's whopping 23GB day one patch will double the size of the game left a few people unhappy – although giant day one patches have become a common.
Kingdome Come: Deliverance, a historical RPG that has had folks excited for a long time now, is finally out this week.And when it hits, anyone picking it up will have one hell of a download.
The patch is live in all regions and on all platforms and seems to not only tweak and balance existing features, but add several new ones as well.
The full list of improvements made by Kingdom Come Deliverance patch 1.01 is as follows:
- Addition of multiple new events to the open world
- Massive improvement in dialogue animations
- Gaining money and experience is rebalanced
- Weapon and armour stats are rebalanced
- General combat improvements
- Improved NPC reaction time
- Sound propagation adjusted
- Archery is now possible in stealth mode
- Improved Persuasion UI
- Plus numerous other bug fixes and improvements
Will Powers, senior marketing and PR manager for Deep Silver, who’re publishing Kingdom Come: Deliverance, replied to the thread stating that the patch was the result of “at least” six weeks work by Warhorse Studios to further polish the game after they’d submitted the final on-disc build.
He also went on to clarify why the patch is the size that it is, saying:
“The way that I’ve been told that the engine works, is it takes the entire game and separates the PKG or ISO into 2GB archives. If during a patch you so much as alter a 1KB text file within any of these 2GB archives, then you need to reupload the ENTIRE 2GB portion.
“That beings [sic] said, this is a major patch that improves overarching mechanics throughout the game, so it touches almost all of these 2GB archives in the entire game build. Essentially you are having to redownload the game to replace the existing files. It shouldn’t stack them and inflate on your hard drive, but rather replace the previously downloaded build files.”
We were interested to see how Kingdom Come Deliverance would fare after it was delayed multiple times. Our own Alex Donaldson thought what he played out the game was “refreshingly interesting and different” – but a full review is forthcoming.
The new patch 1.03 of Kingdom Come Deliverance is now available for download on PS4. The update weighs over 13GB and introduces several improvements to the stealth phases and the technical sector. The developers have also discussed input problems related to the R2 key.
After the 23GB day-one patch, therefore, from today PlayStation 4 users of Kingdom Come Deliverance can download another update of over 13GB. The 1.03 patch, also being certified on Xbox One, aims to improve the following aspects of the game:

1. Stealth and Stealth Kills adjusted.
2. People now get dirty more gradually.
3. Additional quest bugs fixed.
4. Various optimizations.
As you can read in the tweets at the bottom of the page, in addition, the creative director Daniel Vavra discussed the problem of the PS4 version related to the R2 key, the button of the DualShock 4 used to default to launch attacks. Apparently, the key would not be responsive enough due to a bad calibration, a drawback that the developers intend to solve with the next updates.

However, as suggested by the same Vavra, in the meantime you can adopt a temporary solution by changing the mapping of the button used for the attack. Recall that the 1.03 patch of Kingdom Come Deliverance will come soon also on Xbox One.
Patch 1.0.3 passed certification process and is distributed on PS4 now. Xbox still in progress.

Regarding the R2 issue – we are working on it, but its not software issue. If you facing this issue, then it seems your button lost some of its sensitivity. We will fix it asap by changing the input pressure value. But its intersting that its only this one button for everyone 🙂
